Darren Lago works with ordinary objects, such as chairs, kettles and shoes, to distort our idea of the normal. He changes the scale and colour of the objects, blends them together with other things and gives importance to the ordinary. There’s something quite interesting about the way that he works with modern but banal materials - reminiscent of the arte povera movement which worked with things such as newspaper and lettuce - but makes them grand and over the top.
