Kate Clark’s sculpture is creepy. She uses the bodies of animals with the heads of humans skillfully melded together. There’s something mythological about them - there are obvious references to numerous legends regarding the fusion of animal and human. They are creatures not unlike those that once would have been found in circus freakshows, providing a “proof” of the unknown. Perhaps one reason her work is so effective is the use of the emotion within the human face, providing a level of communication not possible with real animals.
